What it does
Manganese runs the water-splitting step of photosynthesis and the enzymes of nitrogen assimilation. Low manganese makes the plant burn more nitrogen to do the same work, because photosynthesis runs at partial throttle. It is phloem-immobile and locks up fast above pH 6.5, so foliar is the standard fix on high-pH and high-organic-matter ground.
